Google Base Optimisation

Google base is an excellent place to get free traffic from. For individual product searches the base products show up as part of the search results. If your feed and product descriptions are done correctly you can show up first and make more sales.

Here are some tips for optimising for Google Base

  1. Long product descriptions win!
  2. Unique product descriptions are better, with a decent keyword density
  3. Exact match on product take wins
  4. Set your product category to the closest match possible,  example, for iPad accessories, don’t just choose accessories, drill down to handheld and pda accessories

Enjoy.

Google Realtime Search

Today Google launched real time search, you can check it out here www.google.com/realtime.

From an SEO point of view, the search suggest results from real time and very different from those of normal search. This further supports the view that search suggest results come from text on the web rather than number of searches.

Google Voice and Video Chat

Google launched their voice and video chat in the UK today. This enables you to make voice calls to landline and mobile numbers worldwide from within Gmail. The rates look great, I can no call my brother on his mobile in Australia for $0.14 a minute.

Ranking Algorithm Change

Google made a change a couple of days ago which allows many pages from the same domain to show up on specific search terms.

I think this could be exploited if a site targets keywords using the Google wonder wheel. For example, a site that was targeting the core term “managed hosting” together with the wonder wheel terms listed below could get their sites pages to list more than once without the indent.

You can see an example of this working with one of my websites.

Enjoy.
